A Monster Calls was my first show to direct at Central High School. The cast and I decided to put more focus on the idea of the monster, rather than create a real looking monster. Our idea for the monster was that it stood as a father figure to Conor, who helps him come to terms with his grief. To accomplish this we made it so that with each appearance of the monster, it would become more human. Giving the character a more complete story arc.
